Boksburg SPCA is committed to improving the lives of animals not only within its facilities, but also in the surrounding communities. Through its dedicated Outreach Programme, the SPCA brings essential veterinary care, education, and support directly to pet owners who need it most.
Bringing Care to the Community
Every Tuesday from 12h00 to 15h00 (weather permitting), the Boksburg SPCA Outreach Team visits local communities to provide primary healthcare services for pets.
Their mission is simple:
- Make basic animal care accessible
- Educate pet owners
- Prevent suffering before it starts
Current Outreach Location
The team is currently stationed in:
Ext 28, Vosloorus
(On the field between the clinic and Ikusasalethu School)
Community members are warmly encouraged to bring their pets to the outreach station during these hours.
Services Offered
The Outreach Team provides a range of essential, preventative, and basic treatment services, including:
- Deworming to protect pets from internal parasites
- Dipping to control ticks and fleas
- Removal and replacement of unsuitable collars
- Treatment of minor wounds and injuries
- Arranging sponsored sterilisation and vaccination
These services are vital in improving the health and wellbeing of pets, especially in areas where access to veterinary care is limited.
Education and Responsible Pet Ownership
Beyond treatment, the Outreach Programme focuses heavily on education. The team works closely with pet owners to teach:
- Proper pet care and hygiene
- The importance of sterilisation
- How to prevent common illnesses
- Responsible ownership practices
By empowering communities with knowledge, the SPCA ensures long-term improvements in animal welfare.
A Rotating Community Initiative
To reach as many areas as possible, the Outreach Team operates on a three-month rotation schedule, visiting different informal settlements.
This ensures that multiple communities benefit from the programme throughout the year, spreading care, awareness, and support where it’s needed most.
Join Us and Make a Difference
The Boksburg SPCA invites all pet owners in the area to take advantage of this initiative. Whether your pet needs treatment or you simply want advice, the Outreach Team is there to help.
By working together, we can build healthier communities for both people and their animals.
