{"id":1533,"date":"2014-09-08T07:38:21","date_gmt":"2014-09-08T07:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.azipit.co.za\/mica2014\/?p=1533"},"modified":"2014-10-21T06:54:40","modified_gmt":"2014-10-21T06:54:40","slug":"make-braided-doormat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lion-test-sites.co.za\/mica-new\/make-braided-doormat\/","title":{"rendered":"Make a Braided Doormat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What you will need:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"listStyles\">\n<li>Large piece of scrap paper as a guide<\/li>\n<li>50 m of thick, braided nylon rope<\/li>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Lighter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol class=\"listStyles\">\n<li>Cover your work surface with the paper<\/li>\n<li>Draw a cross on the paper. It needs a 84 cm vertical line and a 32 cm horizontal line. This will be the dimension of your mat. <\/li>\n<li>As you follow instructions and weave, use the cross as a guide and tape down the loops to hold the shape. <\/li>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.azipit.co.za\/mica2014\/wp-content\/themes\/mica-theme\/images\/rodBaker\/braided-doormat-step-1.jpg\" width=\"151\" height=\"189\" alt=\"braided-doormat-step-1\"\/><\/p>\n<li>Starting at one end of rope, form a loose knot as shown; leave a 76cm tail on right side and slack on left side. Gently pull down on loops.<\/li>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.azipit.co.za\/mica2014\/wp-content\/themes\/mica-theme\/images\/rodBaker\/braided-doormat-step-2.png\" width=\"151\" height=\"189\" alt=\"braided-doormat-step-2\"\/><\/p>\n<li>Flip loops to left as shown. Lift the\n<\/li><li>first loop and cross it over the second. Using tail end, weave as shown.<\/li>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.azipit.co.za\/mica2014\/wp-content\/themes\/mica-theme\/images\/rodBaker\/braided-doormat-step-3.png\" width=\"151\" height=\"189\" alt=\"braided-doormat-step-3\"\/><\/p>\n<li>Using slack end, weave diagonally toward bottom right. Pull rope through. Continue weaving back to top as shown, adjusting rope to resemble diagram.<\/li>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.azipit.co.za\/mica2014\/wp-content\/themes\/mica-theme\/images\/rodBaker\/braided-doormat-step-4.png\" width=\"151\" height=\"189\" alt=\"braided-doormat-step-4\"\/><\/p>\n<li>Follow path of first round with slack end, staying parallel to previous round. Pull rope through after each pass, weaving until mat is formed.<\/li>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.azipit.co.za\/mica2014\/wp-content\/themes\/mica-theme\/images\/rodBaker\/braided-doormat-step-5.png\" width=\"151\" height=\"189\" alt=\"braided-doormat-step-5\"\/><\/p>\n<li>Finish ends by using a needle to sew through the rope just below any frayed ends and tightly wrap thread around rope a couple of times. Sew through several more times to secure. Cut off end of rope just above thread. Singe frayed ends with a lighter to seal; sew to underside.
